The brewery was originally established by John F. Wagner and operated under his name until 1884. It was known as the Benjamin Widder Brewing Co from 1884 until 1887 when the name was changed to The Rising Sun Brewing Co. It appears that the Brewery closed during Prohibition and tried to reincorporate as The Rising Sun Brewery in 1933 after Prohibition ended.

The Brewery operated as the Seeber Brewing Co from 1933 to 1937 when it was purchased by the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Co. The Brewery was permanently closed by Schlitz in 1939.
